Purex ~ FELS-NAPTHA
Laundry Bar and Stain Remover
FELS-NAPHTHA is a specially created laundry bar used to help pre-treat stains and can also be used as a laundry booster. Fels-Naptha can pre-treat dozens of stains and is safe on colors. Great on dirt, grease and ring-around-the-collar. Fels-Naptha is easy to use and more effective than traditional sprays.
Simply wet the stained area and rub the Fels-Naptha laundry bar directly on the stain. Wait 1 minute and wash as normal. You can also use Fels-Naptha as an effective laundry booster by grating 1/16th of your laundry bar directly into your washer with your laundry detergent and wash as normal.
My first reaction to the Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar and Stain Remover was "really??" I mean it looks like a yellow almost dried bar of soap. I thought there is no way this is going to be as easy as they make it sound. As I held the laundry bar in my hand I thought this is just going to crumble if I rub it on anything. The smell on the other hand I couldn't quite decide if I liked. I love that is smells like a cleaning agent, I know most people like the scented soaps (such as fruity or natural smells) but I like my cleaner to smell like cleaners I don't know why, but I feel it actually works better when it's not over shadowed by fruity smells especially. I don't mind the natural mountain breezes and fresh scents, but regardless the Fels-Naptha smells to me like a citrussy, pineish, soap scent. But not in an overwhelming way, more in a light subtle can't quite put my finger on the scent way.. (Sorry for the confusion) But that is exactly the way it seems to me.
My son has a favorite shirt of his that I can never seem to get his stains out of. I immediately went for that shirt while deciding what to try the Fels-Naptha on first. It is a striped shirt and a couple of stripes are white. It seems I can never get those stripes as white as they used to be and it drives me nuts when he wears it cause it always seems to look dingy to me.
I wet the Purex Laundry Bar and started to rub it on the white stripes. I didn't notice any change while rubbing the bar on select spots or while rubbing it on the white stripes. However I did notice the bar was not falling apart as I had assumed it might. It stayed in tact and was easier to rub on that I thought it would be. The water makes the stain remover bar glide across the clothing very easy. I didn't feel like I was stretching or pulling the material at all.
I then proceeded to wash it as I normally do and waited..
Now here is the interesting part. When I first pulled the laundry from the washer to put into the dryer, I was a little disappointed that the white stripes specifically still seemed to look a little dingy to me. I threw the clothes in the dryer and went to work on other stuff.
Later while folding laundry and sorting clothes I didn't really think about the shirt anymore or the Fels-Naptha. I had the kids come get their clothing to put away and of course I should have know, my son wanted to put that shirt on immediately. When he came back out he said you fixed it! I asked what I had fixed and he said his shirt. He walked over to me and showed me a spot on his shirt (there was nothing there...) and said see.. I asked what I was looking for and he told me nothing.. That I fixed it.
Apparently there was a stain there that I had not realized I had gotten. So for stains Fels-Naptha works even when you don't realize its working!! But as far as the white dingy look, I am thinking his shirt was just to far gone for any help in that area.
