I received the "Lightning-Fast" Language Book in French to review. I chose French because my daughter is in her second year of french in school, and seems to like it a lot. I thought with her having a little knowledge of the French language already, we would be able to get a better idea of how well the book works. I had NO knowledge of the French language before setting my eyes on this book.

When I first got the book I skimmed through it, and the first thing I liked was that it was not a thick book, it is only 87 pages long, and that includes worksheets and games. Instantly I liked that they were trying to make learning a new language fun.

As I started to read through the "Lightning-Fast" French book, I loved that they start out explaining how the French language works. Such as how French nouns have a gender attached to them. She goes on to explain how instead of using the words "the", "an", "a" etc. They use gender specific words. So for "the" if you were talking about a female you would use "la" or for a male "le". I thought this was an excellent way to start the book. Most language books you pick up, tell you how to say a phrase, but does not necessarily tell you why.

She also goes on to note that although most french word order is the same as the English language, adjectives are different and usually follow the word they describe, instead of before the word like in the English language. The example she used in the book was, in English we would say... "The red house.." in French, it would be said "la maison rouge" or "the house red".

She then proceeds to explain how you can incorporate a little bit of French (or language of choice) into your everyday life. Instead of sitting down at the table and repeating a repetitive sentence(s) over and over again, actually use the words and the language while doing everyday activities, such as cooking, cleaning, yard work etc. Pick a time of day and utilize the words or sentences while your actively doing these tasks. I personally thought this was an excellent idea as I tend to be a hands on visual person. You could show me a word a million times and it still may not stick in my head, however if I see you using the words as you use the product the words represent it gives a visual for every time I hear the word.

My daughter was so impressed by the "Lightning-Fast" French language book, that she asked me if she could take it in and show her French Teacher. Well, apparently her teacher thought it was great as I didn't get the book back for two weeks. My daughter explained to me that she was checking to see if this book would be allowed as part of their curriculum. I'm not sure how far this went, or if it is still in the process, but that alone tells me this book is better than most.

One other thing I would like to note about the "Lightning-Fast" French Language Books, is that they are centered around family. How to utilize these words, sentences and the language in general, in a way that anyone old enough to read can comprehend what is being said. The author did not go out of her way to use every word in the French language,  instead she went out of her way to make sure the book represented everyday life. The kinds of stuff you do on a daily basis. From feeding your pets, to bed time routines, cooking (She even included a pancake recipe that you can actually make as you learn).

The best part of this book, is the activities. They range from simply making and utilizing vocabulary cards, to crossword puzzles to active activities such as Simon says and a scavenger hunt.

In conclusion I would like to say if you have ever wanted to learn a second language, or even if your just curious, the "Lightning-Fast" French language learning books are the way to go. They are simple and easy to follow books that help you learn in a way that makes learning fun and enjoyable. Whether you are starting a toddler or if you're100 years old you can follow this book, and in my personal opinion, you will be learning your second language in no time at all!!
